Churten

Kind: Unit of beam energy used in Empire-era particle physics. Era of use: ~2641 A.L. and surrounding period.

Summary

The churten is the energy unit in which K. Pasternak’s collider is specified and primed. The story does not give a conversion to 21st-century units; churtens are treated as the local standard in the high-empire era, the same way “GeV” is treated as obvious in our own physics.

Only two churten values are named on-page:

  • 5 churtens — the energy at which Nootics theory predicts the Nooticle should appear. This is the design target of the Aerth-Luna-diameter collider.
  • 4.3 churtens — the priming level the collider actually reaches before Evie seals the beam chamber. The 5-churten experiment is never run.
