Kind: Aerth-side state (the in-universe successor of real-world Bulgaria). Founded: Expanded significantly in/after 194 A.L. following the Narrative War. Seat: Implied Aerth-side, presumably the Bulgarian peninsula.
Summary
The state that starts everything. After the Narrative War (183–194 A.L.) the Bulgaric Republic is one of several Aerth states that expands in the post-war period. Two and a half centuries later, with the rest of the planet pushing to ban Ribbondash following the 433 A.L. voiding disaster, the Bulgaric Republic illegally launches the Geo Milev in 445 A.L., proves Ribbondash works, and in 452 A.L. declares the Galactic Human Empire. Exurb1a confirms in Notes on Why Stuff Got Written that Bulgaria’s starring role is intentional: “nothing would make me happier than Bulgaria becoming a prominent influence in intergalactic space history.”
